Breton shirts first came into being just after the 1850's when a navy and white knitted shirt was issued to all French navy seaman in Brittany. The original shirts known as le mariniere or matalot, featured 21 stripes to represent all of Napoleon's victories.
Armor-lux have been producing Breton shirts since 1938. They are still manufactured in the French region of Brittany.
The jersey features a traditional sailors twin stitched boat neck, is expertly crafted from soft interlock cotton and has a woven Armor-lux label on the sleeve.
